HERBERT BERENDSEN – JOLIET BOY CHOIR
Herb Berendsen joined the Green Bay Boy Choir Artistic team as its Director of the Joliet, changed voice choir in 2015. Mr. Berendsen comes to the Boy Choir from 18 years as the Choral Director at Oshkosh West High School where he conducted men’s and women’s choirs as well as mixed choirs, vocal jazz and barbershop ensembles as well as the Annual musical theater production. Prior to his time at Oshkosh West High School Mr Berendsen was the choral director at Ripon High School.
Herb is an active member of the Wisconsin Choral Director’s Association where he chairs the Next Direction Conference for students interested in pursuing careers in vocal music. He is also a member of the National Association of Music Educators. Mr. Berendsen also conducts the MacDowell Male Chorus of Appleton,the Titan's Men's Chorus at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Chamber singers. He is a private vocal instructor as well as active in his church’s music ministry.
He is a graduate from Wheaton College where he earned his Bachelor in Music Education and then went on to pursue his Masters of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
JUSTINE SKOG - NICOLET BOY CHOIR
Justine Skog joined the Green Bay Boy Choir in 2015 as the director of the Nicolet Choir. Mrs. Skog is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Edison Middle School in Green Bay teaching choir for students in grades 6-8.
At Edison, Justine also directs the school musical and show choir. She is an active member in her school, working as the Edison Summer School Coordinator, Assistant Activities Director, and Music Department Chairperson. Justine is also a member of the American Choral Director’s Association and the Wisconsin Choral Director’s Association.
Justine holds a Bachelor of Choral and General Music from St. Norbert College in De Pere and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Development from Cardinal Stritch in Milwaukee.
ELIZABETH CHAVEZ - MARQUETTE BOY CHOIR
Mrs. Chavez joined the Green Bay Boy Choir Staff in 2012 after serving as a camp clinician. She also serves as the director of the Choral Explorers, a pilot choral program being offered by the Green Bay Boy Choir and Girl Choir at Eisenhower Elementary School in Green Bay in collaboration with the YMCA After-school program.
Elizabeth was an elementary music teacher in the Green Bay Area Public Schools at Eisenhower Elementary School for six years. At Eisenhower, Mrs. Chavez taught music to kindergarten through fifth grade students, served as a PTO staff liaison, member of the Diversity Committee, leader of an after-school drumming club, and was an active member of the school’s Technology Team. Recently, Elizabeth has transitioned to a new position in the Green Bay Area Public Schools as a Technology Integrator. She travels to various schools within the district to guide staff at each building in how to utilize technology in the classroom for teaching and learning purposes.
Mrs. Chavez earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in choral and general music from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Elizabeth is in the process of completing her Master’s Degree in Educational Technology through the University of Marian Online, Fond du Lac, WI. She is an active presenter at various technology conferences within the Northeast Wisconsin region and is a certified SMART Exemplary Educator (SEE) in using SMART technologies.
RACHEL ZIOLKOWSKI - GIRL CHOIR
Ms. Ziolkowski is the new director of the Arietta training choir this year. She has been the choir teacher at Washington Middle School in Green Bay since 2015, where she also directs the Show Choir, the annual musical, and the Mariachi ensemble. After many wonderful and meaningful years singing in treble choirs through high school and college, Ms. Ziolkowski is thrilled to work with young voices in the same setting.
Ms. Ziolkowski graduated from St. Norbert College in 2015 with a Music Education degree, certified to teach Choral and General Music. While at St. Norbert, she also studied Music Composition.
SHELLEY DEGRAVE - GIRL CHOIR
Shelley has been teaching general music in the Green Bay Area School District for the past 4 years, with this year being her 2nd year at Eisenhower Elementary. Shelley was active in choir, show choirs and musicals throughout high school and graduated from UW-Green Bay with a Bachelor in Music Education, general and choral music. She's very excited to work with the Green Bay Girl Choir this year!
AUDREY OLSON – FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR EMERITUS; RETIRED
EMILY SCULLIUFFO— Emily began working with the Green Bay Girl Choir in 2006 and has performed with the choir in Australia, New Zealand, Cleveland, Denver, Vancouver and Minneapolis, Boston and Cincinnati. She is a graduate of St. Norbert College with a degree in piano accompanying. Emily plays for the UWGB Concert Choir, as well as the Calvary Lutheran senior and youth choirs. She enjoys musical theater and has played for over 30 shows in the Green Bay area.
SUSAN ROMEY–Susan Romey's love for accompanying began while playing piano for high school choir concerts. She studied piano pedagogy at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and has been teaching piano and accompanying for churches, weddings, solo/ensemble, etc. since 1990. She currently teaches private piano lessons , Group Piano Lessons at Webster Elementary School of Integrated Arts, is an office manager at The Bridge Recording Studio, and a member of the Northeast Wisconsin Piano Teachers Forum. Susan previously accompanied the training choirs and currently accompanies the Nicolet and Joliet choirs.
KATIE KAMIN – Katie is the newest addition to the Green Bay Boy Choir, where she accompanies for the Marquette Choir. Katie attended UW-Green Bay, receiving at Bachelor in Music, and holds certifications in instrumental, choral and general music. She has since gone on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Music from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Katie is a member of the National Association for Music Education, where she has been a featured guest speaker in Nashville, TN, discussing relevant topics in music education.
At present, Katie works in the West De Pere School district, where she teaches general music and beginning band at Westwood Elementary School. She also teaches private piano lessons at Heid Music, and plays piano at her church as member of the contemporary worship team.
